The Most Valuable Player (MVP) award is considered one of the most prestigious awards in the NFL and Cam Newton from the Carolina Panthers received the honor of being named as the MVP for this season.
Newton had two contenders vying for the MPV spot in Carson Palmer from the Arizona Cardinals and Tom Brady from the New England Patriots but in the end he had a landslide victory securing 48 out of the 50 votes from the Associated press with Palmer and Brady getting one vote each. The fact that Palmer and Brady had a poor Week 17 gave Newton a huge advantage as he had a total of 26 touchdowns in the last eight of his regular season games.
Newton will have an opportunity at Super Bowl 50 to make it even better by helping his team with the championships. In a statement, Newton said “I would also like to thank (Panthers owner Jerry Richardson) for the opportunity to be the face of an organization when a lot of people didn’t approve of his decision. I would also like to thank every person that has doubted me because you made me better. Dab.”
Newton has clearly been the standout player in the NFL this season as he has added a new dimension to his game by becoming a great passer which has made it very difficult for his opposition to stop him. He is also considered to be one of the best short and red zone runners in the NFL at the moment and to top it all off, he has a fantastic rushing ability making him one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history.
